SHOCKING BLUE

SHOCKING BLUE were a Dutch rock band from The Hague, the Netherlands, formed in 1967. Their biggest hit, "Venus", went to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in February 1970. The band had a string of hits between 1968 and 1974, including “Send Me A Postcard”, “Long And Lonesome Road”, “Venus”, “Mighty Joe”“Never Marry A Railroad Man” and "Inkpot". When SHOCKING BLUE split up, on 1 June 1974, lead singer Mariska Veres (†) continued in a solo career until the band was reunited in 1984 and later recorded "Jury And the Judge" with "I Am Hanging On To Love" on B-side, and yet another unreleased song "Time Is A Jetplane" in 1986, then they split again. From 1993 on Mariska Veres performed in yet another reincarnation of SHOCKING BLUE until her death of cancer on 2nd December 2006.
