SHOCKING BLUE

The SHOCKING BLUE were a Dutch rock band from The Hague, the Netherlands, formed in 1967. Their biggest hit, "Venus", went to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in February 1970. The band had a string of hits between 1968 and 1974, including “Send Me A Postcard”, “Long And Lonesome Road”, “Venus”, “Mighty Joe”, “Never Marry A Railroad Man” and "Inkpot". When the SHOCKING BLUE split up in 1974, lead singer Mariska Veres continued in a solo career until the band was reunited in 1984 and later recorded "Jury And the Judge" with "I Am Hanging On To Love" on B-side, and yet another unreleased song "Time Is A Jetplane" in 1986, then they split again. From 1993 on Mariska Veres performed in yet another reincarnation of SHOCKING BLUE until her death.

Sadly, Mariska Veres died of cancer on 2nd December 2006, at the aged of 59 !
